Denise gazed out the sliding glass door and took in the vista with a mixture of satisfaction and longing. The tops of the conifer trees fell away before her revealing the small settlement nestled near the banks of the Columbia River. It wasn’t the original Columbia River – that one was back on Earth and was much mightier than the modest body of water that flowed alongside the settlement – but the colonists had decided to use names from their home on Earth to describe the natural features of New America.
