The hard drive in the server that hosts this site was making some ominous noises for the past day or so. I managed to get to it before it failed though. Stardust is now running on my development server and should be fine until I can get the main server repaired. All of the stories, comments and user accounts have been transferred to the "new" server and things seem to be working well.
Guess I need to decide now if I should just put a new hard drive into the old server or if I should do some major upgrades while the old server is down.

Thank you Bob!
Thank you Bob for all your efforts on our behalf that you give us in the christmas season and all year long.
It wouldn't seem like Christmas without Stardust!

Ominous sounds?
Like a failing water pump on old Chrysler years back?
You could tell by the sound, though a leak out the driphole at the bearing seal was the absolute proof.
With experience I magine you can tell the brand of drive that is failing. I had a Scout Master who could ID outboard motors by their sound but then he was an engineer at Evinrude back when they were still a big piece of the market.
Very windy and cold here in Greater Milwaukee today, very little new snow and the rain/mist in the last few days before this cold has made the old snow dirty and ugly.
Have merry and safe Christmas or what ever you do or do not celebrate.
There, that covers nearly evreything, um, everything.

My opinion
Having watched a few public-postings sites (fanfic etc) do crippled-yoyo emulations... My opinion is that the best way to ensure that a site goes and stays offline is to use a maintenance event as an excuse to improve things. Gremlins and other locally-delegated enforcers of Murphy's Laws love decisions like that.
