Some success... maybe...

After yet another research session this morning I've made some changes to the internal workings of the BCTS server in LA to try to improve its performance. I'll spare you the technical jargon but I will say that it all involved how the web server software responded to user requests. Looks like the changes I made may have had a decent positive effect on how well the box works.

I'm trying to fine tune how well the server works in order to handle the traffic that Erin's site is getting. With FM down BCTS is getting hit hard with users and the changes we've been forced to make in the past few months have barely kept things together. I think this last change may buy us yet more time to see what's going to happen with FM.

Buying a new server isn't cheap and unless FM stays down for good the traffic to the existing server is likely to drop back down to previous levels. It's hard to justify spending $2,000 plus on a new server if she doesn't have to.

Good work

207 visitors on BC right now, and everything is still there. Nothing has been dropped off to reduce the loading.

Very nice, Bob!

Looks good so far

I'm happy with the change so far and I've talked a bit with Erin about it too. I do hope it holds up since the load seems to be growing daily on BCTS with FM down and the uncertainty if/when they'll return.

Hmm........

unless it is just me all I get in trying to go on line last two hours is "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at bigclosetr.us."
