On Google and Dismissals

Every now and then I google myself. Maybe it's vanity, but folks who read my stuff don't always talk about it on the websites I frequent. And, hey, half of the fun of being a writer is the joy of knowing what people think about what you've written. THe other half, of course is money, but we're not going to go there.

So I'm going through the results and I come across a blog entry. There's a young T-girl who's in the process of evaluating her reading material to see if they're helping or hurting her transistion, or so I gathered from the read. She had quite a lot to say about some of the writers I'm friends with but what struck me was what she had to say about Bek. And I quote:

The Horror of Real Life

Wow, it's been a long time since I've done something with this.

I guess I should feel a little ashamed, but unfortunately all I have to offer up are the usual mea culpas. So, what is spinning in my corner of creation you might be wondering?

Well, I have to announce that Foundations of Stone is offically gone. The coders had a hell of a time implimenting some of the more tricky features we wanted to include, the art department couldn't meet deadlines and as the entire project missed two important mile stones the investors pulled out. A bit over a month ago a cyber squatter stole the domain and that, as they say is that.

Steam shall save the WORLD!!!

I am a hopeless romantic; I’ll freely admit to it. As far as I’m concerned the only way a story should end is hero defeats villain, beds heroine (as applicable) and all is right with the world, however briefly. Of course I must also admit to being more than a bit of a traditionalist so villain should have either friends to bust him out of jail for the next story or his Final Reward should be suitably off camera so that it can be plausibly explained away that he cheated Death to once more foil our Hero(ine).

People don’t write stories like that anymore, which is a darned shame. Perhaps I’m jaded as that’s what I grew up, learning at the feet of masters like Vern, Wells and Doyle. Which brings up a fascinating sub-genre of Sci-Fi which is generally referred to as Steam Punk.

I blame the Discovery Channel

For those who don't know me, you'll find that if I'm watching television (and not a sample of my meager, but well diversified DVDs) the set will be on one of three stations; The Learning Channel, The Discovery Channel or the History Channel. I've always been addicted to learning, so even when I'm relaxing I'd rather be filling the noggin with something that wasn't there before and may have some esoteric use some day.

Weird Al may have lost on Jeopardy! but I was banned.

I guess I'm just too full of useless facts for Alex Trebek's liking. I'm absolutely addicted to the Myth Busters. Why couldn't I have had science teachers like this when I was a kid? Who knew algebra and geometry could be so much fun?

The Doldrums of Summer

Ugh, maybe writing this will help me deal with things. Man I wish I could get the gumpton to write something. Life is just so crazy just now.

Let's see, got the big milestone meeting with the Investors for FOS over the July 4th weekend. It will be nice to get to head to Florida, but I doubt I'll get much relaxation in while stressing over that. The joys of being the Project Manager.

In the so many guns, so little paycheck department the SO has absolutely fallen in love with this little Springfield Armory 9mm that she wants for her purse gun. While we were over at Ed's Gun and Tackle this sweet little Smith & Wesson AR-15/M-4 clone caught my eye. Not to mention the little Ruger .22LR pinker pistol we went into the store to look for in the first place!
